Release Notes - October and November 2024
We are excited to announce the following updates to the Researcher API:
Reload of Journal Citation Report Data
ROR In Web of Science Expanded API
Pagination for the Starter API has been increased
Release Notes – June 20, 2024
Web of Science Journal API
The 2024 update to the Web of Science Journal Citation Reports (JCR) occurred on June 20th. The Journals API dataset was also updated on June 20th to include the newly released data for 2023.
Web of Science Researcher API
Web of Science Researcher API now includes ORCID information in its search response. This avoids making additional requests to fetch the ORCID of a ResearcherID.
Release notes - May 23, 2024
Web of Science Expanded API
We are pleased to announce the release of the new view Short Record (SR) for the Expanded API, which can be retrieved through a query parameter optionView.
Times Cited for all Databases
While the Short Record only displays the Times Cited for the request’s databaseId, the Full Record shows the Times Cited for all databases and includes the total Times Cited across all databases. The response is an array, and WOK represents all databases.
Release notes - August 31, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API
We are pleased to announce the release of the new Citation Report endpoint for the Expanded API. The Citation Report endpoint allows users to generate a report with valuable bibliometrics for any Web of Science query.
Release notes - August 17, 2023
Web of Science Starter API
The ‘detail’ parameter released on July 20, 2023 is now supported by the /documents/{{UT}} endpoint.
Web of Science Expanded API
Filtering improvements: The /related endpoint now supports the modifiedTimeSpan parameter and the /citing endpoint now supports createdTimeSpan.
Release notes - August 3, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API
The modifiedTimeSpan parameter can now be applied to the /citing endpoint. This parameter does not work with the ‘all databases’ search (databaseId=WOK). Applying modifiedTimeSpan with databaseId=WOK now returns an error on all endpoints.
Web of Science Starter API
The API now supports the ‘sourceURL’ search tag, abbreviated as SUR. This extends the Starter API functionality to support a Data Citation Index (DRCI) search option previously available on the deprecated Links AMR API.
Release notes - July 20, 2023
Web of Science Starter API
A new ‘detail’ parameter is now available. This new parameter allows the user to choose between receiving the full response data (detail=full), or an abbreviated version (detail=short) that closely matches the data previously available through Links AMR.
Links AMR
To alert users of the impending sunset of Links AMR, the API will experience a series of scheduled ‘brownouts’ where the API will respond with an error message instead of data.
Release notes - July 6, 2023
Web of Science Journals API
The Journals API dataset was also updated June 28 to include the newly released data. The 2023 update includes journal metrics data for 2022.
Release notes - June 22, 2023
Links AMR
As of this release, Links AMR will include three new headers in every response intended to alert users of the impended sunset.
Release notes - June 8, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API
Improved error handling: Query ID error messages were not descriptive (e.g. Server.objectNotFound).
Web of Science Expanded (SOAP) API
To alert users of the impending sunset of the SOAP APIs, the APIs will experience a series of scheduled ‘brownouts’ where the API will respond with an error message instead of data.
Web of Science Starter API
A bug was fixed that was preventing users with a ‘free’ Starter token from requesting access to any other API.
Release notes - May 25, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API
Record Usage Counts are now available. The Usage Count is a measure of the level of interest in a specific item on the Web of Science platform.
Bugfix for /related endpoint.
Web of Science Starter API

Release notes - May 11, 2023
Web of Science Lite and Expanded (SOAP) APIs
The November 1, 2023 sunset of the legacy SOAP versions of our Web of Science APIs was announced last year (see FAQ at Web of Science: SOAP API Sunset – Frequently asked questions (FAQs) (clarivate.com). As of this release, the SOAP APIs will include three new headers in every response intended to alert users of the impended sunset.
Release notes - April 27, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API
Improvements to the usability of the viewField parameter: The optionView parameter is now assumed if viewField is provided. The parameter will continue to be accepted by the API, but has been removed from the documentation.
Release notes - April 13, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API

Release notes - March 30, 2023
Web of Science Expanded API
Updates for category codes: Web of Science Categories (aka ASCA categories) are updated from time to time. You can find a recent example from the following announcement: New Web of Science categories reflect ever-evolving research – Clarivate.
Release notes - March 16, 2023
Web of Science Starter API
Bugfix for category codes: The two-character codes for traditional Web of Science Categories (aka ASCA categories) were not being included in responses for categories that include an ampersand.
Release notes - March 2, 2023
Web of Science Starter API
A new optional parameter has been added to the Starter API: modifiedTimeSpan. The parameter allows a user to search only for documents modified during a certain time space, limiting results to those with only the most recent updates. This will be especially useful for data integration projects where the application makes regular API calls to check for updated data in WoS.
